#BEDM - 18th: World Baking Day

Today is World Baking Day.  The idea behind this day is to bake something for someone, to show how much you care about them.  It's 'a scrumptious celebration of our cherished relationships'.

Now, I don't need an excuse to bake a cake (although as I live with just one another person I try to bake cakes only when we have guests/are visiting friends/for Guiding events as otherwise we'd have half a cake to eat each, and that is just a bit too much) but if I did, then birthdays are the best excuse.  Ben's birthday is this week, and so I'm currently in the process of making a chocolate cake for him to take with us when we go and have dinner with his family.

It's a recipe I've not tried before, from The Great British Book of Baking, a recipe book based on ideas from the first (I think) series of The Great British Bake Off.  See, I'm doing my best to try new recipes and broaden those baking horizons!

I'll write more about it once it's finished, but here's a photo of part of my kitchen right now:

I know raw cake mix isn't for everybody, and you should always be careful with uncooked eggs etc etc etc but to me, licking the bowl is one of the best bits about baking.
