Never forget.

Today, I found out a friend's baby has been stillborn. I am so upset, confused and angry and I know the parents are feeling infinitely more upset and helpless and that makes me feel even more upset and helpless. Utterly helpless.

I've spent this afternoon reading about stillbirth and, frankly, I'm amazed any healthy babies are actually born given the plethora of things that can go wrong during a pregnancy, and how seemingly healthy babies can just die. I've made a donation to Sands in the baby's name: hopefully their research can prevent more stillbirths in the future, and that they continue to have the resources to best help parents and families in need.

Tonight, I will raise a glass to this baby, the baby's parents and their wider family. To a baby I never had the pleasure of meeting, a baby I will never forget.

  1. My brothers studied medicine, and the size of the obstetric text book is scary. I am so sorry to hear about your friend. This is the third I've heard of this summer. There is nothing sensible to say, except that it happens a lot more than people know. Love your friend, and listen to her when she needs it and my love and prayers are with anyone touched by this.
